Looking for high-quality cast iron grill grates? Tell you what, “forget about grilling and start steaming your meals! It’s the healthiest cooking method and will help reduce your dinosaur tummy, Mike.” Well, that’s what my friend said to me the other day and he got sock in the eye for mouthing off like that. The nerve of him… I lost a couple of pounds last month for Sarah’s sake! Okay, I didn’t sock him but really wish I had though.

Anyway, I absolutely love grilling stuff. Grilling is also a healthy form of cooking, but problem is I tend to dump A LOT of Jack Daniel’s grilling sauce on my meat so the mega extra calories went straight to my waist. See, I’m super obsessed with all kinds of grilling sauces. And want to know what else I’m obsessed about?

Well, I’m obsessed with buying all sorts of grilling items and cast iron cookware. They are simply awesome for cooking. Look, I’ll ramble more about the awesomeness of cast iron cookware later on.

First, I want talk about cast iron grill grates specifically. I want to lend you a helping hand in finding decently made cast iron grilling grates.

You may think that buying cooking grates is as simple as doing Michael Jackson’s moonwalk but it’s not (trust me, the moonwalk is a piece of cake and I could do it with ease when I was 50 pounds lighter). I had the unfortunate experience of buying a bunch of cast iron cooking grates that were extremely poor in quality.

Some had grates that cracked after a couple times of usage. The heat was too much for them to take obviously. And some had rather fragile grates that broke off easily and so on. So let me give you a hand here.

Weber Grill Grates

Weber is a well-known brand that produces plenty of top-notch cast iron grill grates. And they don’t make cast iron cooking grates exclusively mind you. They also make other stuff such as portable grills, various gas barbecue grills, table kits, griddles, heck they even have a decent chimney starter which I received as a birthday present, and was promptly stolen by God knows who! I bought

Weber grill grates model 7526 about 3 years ago and they’re still doing fine to this day. Here’s a picture so you can have a good idea of how they look.

The cast iron grilling grates in the photo are actually constructed of porcelain-enameled cast-iron. Basically, the cast iron is coated with porcelain for protection against rust. Previously I used to buy those regular steel grates and let me tell you, in terms of maintenance, they were a pain in the butt!

They rust easily so proper upkeep is essential (and hassling). Also, they were pretty light thus couldn’t conduct the heat properly unlike the cast iron ones which are heavy.

Weber’s porcelain-coated cast iron grill grates have better heat retention and are able to induce top-notch grill marks so you’ll taste a mark difference in the flavor of your grilled food. Maintenance is pretty much fuss-free.

As for the installation process, well it is super easy and can be fitted onto Weber’s Spirit E-310 gas grill as well as Genesis Silver B and C. Follow the link below if you want to know more the grate or if you feel like buying it, especially with the free shipping offer available.

Replacement Grill Grates

These days, you can find replacement grill grates right from the comfort of your home and we can all thank the internet for allowing us to be as lazy as possible. I don’t know about you, but nowadays I prefer to have my stuff sent directly to my place instead of having to go out and buy them.

I’m not a lazy sod or anything. It’s just that I work on shifts. Sometimes I have to work for 6 full days depending on the shift cycle. It blows I know so that’s why I buy most my stuff from the net. Yes, I even bought a couple of gas grill racks online. No problem at all.

See, a few years back one of my good buddies and I went looking for a few replacement cast iron grill grates. We drove to a number of stores. Scoured here and there like a couple of scrap metal collectors. And what did we get for all the trouble we went through? Nothing. Yup, that’s right…nothing. The replacement grill grates we came across at the stores were rather low in quality.

Truth is, our relatively small community has a limited number of stores and most don’t even sell cast iron grill grates for Sarah’s sake. But they carry plenty of cheap stainless steel grill grates though. On the internet however, there a ton of cast iron replacement grill grates complete with multiple customer reviews to help you make a better buying decision.

So I figured I should compile a list featuring only the best quality ones. I’m talking about replacement grates that received average customer ratings of 4 stars and up. Grill grates that received ratings below 4 stars can go burn in a fire pit grill because we want only the best items for our hard-earned shift money!

Okay, I’m leaving a link here so you can browse through various top-rated replacement grill grates. I’m sure you’d find one that catches your fancy.

Why Cast Iron Grates for Grills?

I received an email from a reader with the following subject header, “what’s so special about using cast iron grates for grills? “ Oddly enough, the email had absolutely zero content! It was an empty email with only the aforementioned question as the subject header. But I replied to the sender anyway stating my reasons for preferring cast iron grates over other materials out there.

Okay so, I favor cast iron grates for grills because…

1) Optimal heat retention. Once the grates have become sufficiently hot, they are likely to remain so. Also heats in an even fashion and rather quickly as well.

2) Well seasoned cast iron grill grates would significantly reduce the chances of your food sticking to the grates. I used stainless steel grates several years back, albeit a cheap one, my food was always sticking to the grates and I found that to be super annoying.

3) Cast iron grates can significantly enhance the flavor of your food and create better grilling marks.

4) Long-lasting even with relatively minimal upkeep, especially those with porcelain coating.

5) Easy to clean.

So that’s that I think. I’m sure I could add a few more reasons but it’s already 10 P.M here and my shift starts in an hour and I still feel a little sleepy….Yawn!!!
